Do you love fashion? Are you happiest when browsing the racks at your favorite store? If so then you should consider the world of couture. This French word is basically translated to mean fashion. The literal translation is similar to dressmaking or sewing. However in the United States people use the word couture to describe clothing that is fashionable. The term is flexible and can mean anything from actual designer clothes like something from Chanel or Calvin Klein, or it can refer to apparel that is trendy and popular.


You can buy ready to wear couture in many department stores like Bloomingdale's and Macy's just to name two. You can also find designer boutiques that offer clothing off the rack in various malls and large cities. For example many of the massive casino resort hotels in Las Vegas have designer boutiques. You will also definitely find them in Beverly Hills and New York City. You can even order fashions online. You may not be able to order directly from the design house but you can find resellers.

When looking for a place to shop in person, there are several things to consider. Is the merchandise in your price range? Do you like what you see when you walk in and browse? Even the temperament of the sales people can make a big difference in where you shop. Some customers like to be fawned over and attended to by a salesperson while others want to be left alone. A good sales associate will approach you once to ask if you need help, at which time you can say yes or no. If you're on a budget, don't be persuaded by an aggressive associate trying to make more commission by selling you more than you want to buy.

There are lots of couture store choices online. Shopping on the Internet is convenient and fun. You can shop in your pajamas at 3 a.m. if you choose. There are no salespeople to pester you, and you can go from store to store in minutes. Although you can't try the clothes on you can return them if you save the receipt, tags and packaging. If you know your exact measurements and go by the size chart which should be somewhere on the site you should have few problems with your order.
