The perfect wedding gown is the dream of many brides-to-be. When it comes to couture, brides want a dress that is fitted especially for them. If you are planning to tie the knot and are currently shopping for a designer dress you may have some idea of what you're looking for. Or, you may have no idea whatsoever and want to browse what's out there. You will find many beautiful choices from well known designers like Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier. There are also plenty of gorgeous bridal gowns made by lesser known names.


Vera Wang is a New York City native and fashion designer famous for her graceful wedding dresses. Most of her designs are simple yet romantic which is why many celebrities choose her gowns. Another popular designer with the rich and famous is the also aforementioned Monique Lhuillier. Her gowns range from floaty and feminine to classic and sophisticated. Even if you can't get a Vera Wang or Monique Lhullier gown you can view their collections and look for similar styles that are available within your price range.

There are all kinds of bridal boutiques where you can view the inventory and try on different styles. When dress shopping it helps to take a trusted friend or family member along who can give their honest opinion. Make sure to look at each gown you're considering from every angle and do plenty of comparison shopping. You will find many different styles including traditional with full skirt, fitted sheath, ballerina and empire waist to name a few. Your gown should make you feel comfortable, confident and beautiful. Most every wedding gown can be altered to fit your size if it's not quite right.

When shopping for couture, brides should take into consideration their price range, what season they are getting married in and their wedding theme. For example if you are having a fairy tale theme a ballerina ball gown with a tulle skirt or an empire waist Renaissance style gown would be ideal. If you don't have a particular theme, just choose the gown that looks and feels best to you. You might have to try on a number of dresses but eventually you will find the perfect one for your big day!
